Its almost time to celebrate St. Patrick’s day here in Ireland. I’ve been living in Dublin for the past 18 years and I love the celebrations!
Last year i wanted to add an Irish magical touch to our kitchen for the day, so i designed a crochet pattern for a cute little leprechaun’s hat – big enough to keep your boiled eggs warm on the kitchen table. My daughter absolutely loves it.
Here is my pattern for the leprechaun’s hat egg cosy. I make them with a ‘worsted’ or ‘aran’ weight yarn. I love ‘Stylecraft special yarn’ for this project in meadow which you can find here I use a 2.5 mm and 3mm crochet hook and keep my tension tight throughout. I use gold and green metalic yarn for the buckle and shamrock and double knit black cotton for the ribbon. My pattern is in US crochet terminology and I work in continuous rounds.
- CH = chain
- SC = single crochet
- INC = single crochet increase (2 single crochets in same stitch)
- HDC = half double crochet
- TC = triple crochet
- SS = Slip Stitch
